ADSL Field House named for longtime player, coach Jim Collyer

The All Dorchester Sports League (ADSL) dedicated a city-owned field house in Fields Corner to longtime coach and mentor Jim Collyer on Sat., Nov 9. Mayor Martin Walsh spoke at the event which was also attended by State Senators Linda Dorcena Forry and Sonia Chang Diaz as well as many of the city’s elected officials including city councillors Frank Baker and Ayanna Pressley. Red Sox U.S.-Japan Baseball Exchange

Red Sox U.S.-Japan Baseball Exchange Hosted by BPL

The annual Red Sox Foundation-run program brings young Bostonians to Japan or Japanese youths to Boston for a 10-day exchange of baseball and culture. The guests stay with local host families — an experience that literally transforms their view of the world and their place in it. The program features baseball clinics and scrimmages with local youth leagues along with visits to educational and cultural attractions. Harvey Soolman and the BPL hosted.

Louie DiTullio, Park League HOF, 1997

In Memory of Louie DiTullio, BPL Hall of Famer

Louie DiTullio, BPL Hall of Fame pitcher 1997 passed away on April 28, 2014 in Florida.  Louie was an outstanding left handed pitcher for the Carlevale Braves and the Supreme Saints.  He also played for the Easton Huskies of the Cranberry League and later became the League Commissioner.

A memorial service will be held for BPL Hall of Famer Louie DiTullio at St. Joseph’s Church, Holbrook, Tuesday, May 13th at 9am. Read more

Sophomore James Mulry, Northeastern left handed pitcher, struck out both Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz during the annual Spring Training game on Thursday, February 27, 2014 in Ft. Myers against the Red Sox. In 3 innings, Mulry allowed 3 hits and 1 earned run while walking 2, along with his 2 strikeouts. The Red Sox beat Northeastern, 5-2.

James is on the TJO Sports roster, and the son of BPL Hall of Famer Jim Mulry (1998), who played shortstop for both Northeastern & Triple D’s. Read more

From BPL All-Star to Super Bowl XLVIII

Neither Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders, nor any of the other 65 professional athletes who played Major League Baseball or in the National Football League ever achieved such a feat. But Jimmy Mello of the Boston Park League did. This winter, Jim Mello, 56, became the first player in history to hit a home run out of Fenway Park and participate in a Super Bowl.
